Nominating Committee - Governors

  • Myila Granberry

    2005
I have served on the nominating committee intermittently for the last 8 years. I understand the importance of looking at each candidate with an open mind, as well as understanding how their skills and abilities can be an asset to the board.

    Relevant Experience:
    AAMC Nominating Committee;
    AAMC Board of Governors;
    Alumnae of Color Committee - Co Chair;
Lifelong Learning Committee - Co Chair.

  • Catherine Ladnier

    1970
I am currently serving on the Board of Governors for my second term. I am active in the Tristate Club. I have served on the nominating committee in the past and would consider it an honor to serve again. It is a daunting challenge as the nominees are incredibly talented, reflecting on the legacy of Mills as nurturing and inspiring. In the 1980s, I established the Eva and Harry Ladnier Scholarship. Over the years, I have received many letters from recipients, expressing not only their appreciation but more importantly what a Mills education meant to them.

    Relevant Experience:
Beyond my board service, I lead programs on the WWII incarceration of Japanese Americans, using letters Mills students and families sent to the President and Mills family. These letters honor Mills College’s legacy as a champion for students, standing against injustice.

Nominating Committee - Members

  • Anna Henderson

    1981
At Mills I felt supported by fellow students, teachers and staff, and got my first full-time job (managing the academic computing center). I believe that our Alumnae Association can continue to support social and educational opportunities for our alums and young women.

    Relevant Experience:
I have held a variety of positions, including President, with my local Palo Alto Mills College Club (San Mateo and Santa Clara counties) and served as a nominating committee alternate for 2 years. I worked in tech, and after my daughters were born enjoyed a second career as an elementary school teacher.

  • Cynthia Jackson

    1988
I'm running to be on this year's Nominating Committee to lend my deep experience with Board matters and evaluation of resumes and applications in my work at Mills College. I’m in my fifteenth year of service working on the academic side of Mills College, first as an Academic Secretary from 1989 through 1994, and from 2018 in the Provost's Office. I’m currently the Associate Director for Finance and Operations for the Office of the Dean, Mills College at Northeastern University. I want to help ensure there are qualified, collaborative and dedicated alums serving on the next iteration of our Board of Governors.

    Relevant Experience:

    - 15 years employee with Mills.
    - Currently Associate Director of Finance and Operations for the Mills College Dean's Office.
    - I am the Chairperson of an East Bay non-profit.
    - 5 years of Board of Directors experience.

  • Amy Kalivas

    2002
I have extensive experience working with and serving on boards, and have a strong leadership background specifically in the non-profit sector. I have been a member of nominating committees and know the importance of their work. I am also a passionate Mills alum who cares very deeply about the Mills legacy because I would not be the person I am today without Mills. I want to contribute to the success of the AAMC in a meaningful way.

    Relevant Experience:

    • 18+ years project management experience
    • 16+ years non-profit management and administration
    • Chair and Chief Financial Officer, Disability Rights California (2008-2014)
    • Appointed member San Diego Mayor’s Accessibility Advisory Board (2017-2019)
    • Volunteer GLSEN San Diego, Women Give San Diego

  • Lisa Kremer

    1990
The AAMC is our lifeboat: the holder of our memories and traditions, and our best voice for Mills’ values. We need strong leadership to carry us through these difficult transition years. I am an attorney and advise nonprofits, and have been on several nonprofit boards. I held leadership roles as a student (dorm president, class co-president, Weekly editor) and as an alum (AAR, class agent, Puget Sound Mills Club, Nominating Committee). It’s still true, what an alum told me my first week at Mills: “You’ll be at Mills four years, but you’ll be an alum all your life.”

    Relevant Experience:
At Mills: dorm president, class co-president, Weekly co-editor. As an alum: AAR 10+ years, class co-agent 14 years, AAMC NomCom, Alum Engagement Committee, bent twig mom. Other: Attorney advising nonprofits; have been on several nonprofit boards. Also real estate transactions, business succession and contracts, dispute resolution, intellectual property, privacy.

  • Pierre Loving

    1977
If elected as a nominating committee member again, my goal would be to get Mills alums involved in the AAMC. The legacy of Mills College and the outstanding opportunities and education we received should never be forgotten. Our experiences involved much more than learning—the lifelong friendships developed, creative academic opportunities we enjoyed, and how we matured and transformed from entrance to graduation. Mills professors encouraged "out of the box thinking" and creative expression, allowing freedom to share our opinions. This was all part of the Mills experience. I look forward to encouraging alumnae/i to get involved and support the AAMC.

    Relevant Experience:
Elected and served as the Chair of the Nominating Committee for 4 years and as a board member of the committee for 1 year.

  • Sarah Nash

    1992
I’ve worked in communications for the Office of Alumnae Relations for almost 17 years and have broad experience connecting with alums through our engagement vehicles, such as the bi-monthly (e)ucalyptus email newsletter; the alum website, social media, Reunion messages, fundraising appeals, as well as through onsite Commencement and Reunion support. I have worked closely with the AAMC on supporting its messaging to alums over the past years and understand its governance. As an alum who is familiar with both the university’s priorities and the AAMC’s leadership, I’m in a position to select AAMC leaders who can best interface with Northeastern.

    Relevant Experience:
In addition to my role as communications staff for the Office of Alumnae Relations, which works collaboratively with the AAMC both in its communications and events, I serve as secretary to the board of my neighborhood association in San Leandro, and have served on the San Leandro Leadership Program committee.

  • Selena September

    2002
As an experienced AAMC board member passionate about Mills' legacy, I’d like to continue serving our community through the nominating committee. Mills transformed my life as a struggling single mother, providing community, empowerment, and a great education that propelled my career and life journey. With extensive leadership experience including vice-dean at a Chinese university and program director roles, I understand how to evaluate candidates. My decade in higher education, community outreach, and cultural experience across multiple countries have honed my ability to identify talent and build bridges. I'm committed to recruiting candidates who will advance AAMC's mission and strengthen our Mills community.

    Relevant Experience:
As vice-dean and program director, I hired and evaluated candidates. AAMC board member. Community building experience. Communications council member skilled in collaborative work. As a campaign director, I managed outreach to 50,000+ students with a volunteer team. These roles taught me to identify leadership qualities and work with diverse groups.

  • Deborah Wood

    1975
My leadership—within the AAMC, the Board of Trustees, and my professional and organizational capacities—uniquely qualify me to serve on the Nominating Committee. Going forward, the strength of the AAMC's governance structure relies upon its officers’ collective sustainable vision for the AAMC. The last Mills College classes graduate in 2025/2026; the challenge is to attract membership across all ages and class years to sustain the AAMC. The Nominating Committee's role is to propose candidates who will do just that. The breadth of my leadership experience—including executive-level candidate evaluations—position me to add to the Nominating Committee’s important work.

    Relevant Experience:

Washington, DC Mills Branch Club Co-Chair; Member, AAMC Alumnae of Color Committee; Alumnae Trustee and Board of Governors; Chair, Antiracism Working Group, Board of Trustees; Co-Chair, AAMC Travel Committee; Executive Director, Los Angeles Commission on Community & Family Services; Los Angeles Community Services Program Director; Interim Executive Director, Los Angeles Women's Commission; Deputy Director, Los Angeles City, Washington, DC Office; DC Human Rights Commissioner; DC Human Rights Commission Chair.

  • Cynthia Zang Facer Clark

    1964
In leading organizations, I have hired and mentored many individuals. Through this experience I recognize characteristics of leadership. As an advocate for women, an alumna of Mills College, and long-term alumnae representative, I am aware of attributes that will further Mills vision for the present and future. It is my desire that the AAMC accepts and acknowledges its alliance with Northeastern University and works to enhance that alliance while preserving the history of Mills College. Doing this the AAMC will recognize its role in furthering education and social justice for all who will call Mills at Northeastern their alma mater

    Relevant Experience:
Served as CEO for the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (2008-2014), and transformed the business processes, program, and culture of the agency. Served as Executive Director of COPAFS (2018-2020). Served on international advisory committees and boards of several organizations, and as an officer in international organizations.

  • Leah Zippert

    1990, 2019
As an alumna twice over - 1990 and 2019 - I'm fully vested in seeing the Alumna Association continue to provide us all with the opportunity to connect. The best way to do that is to assure that the AAMC has a process to find excellent leadership. NomCom provides that role. I would bring my years of experience working with elected officials and the public, along with my understanding of the AAMC to the NomCom.

    Relevant Experience:
    • Communications project management for two San Francisco Bay Area regional governments
    • Senior Public Information Officer, Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), 2017-2024
    • Senior Communications Officer, ABAG, 2000-2017
    • Children's school PTA President 2010-2012 and Class Representative 2008-2010
    • Mills Reunion Committee, 2000-2003.
