APPLICATION FOR THE AAMC BOARD OF GOVERNORS
The AAMC Board of Governors is made up of alum volunteers who lead the organization in service to Mills College alumnae and the nonprofit as a whole. Board leadership is essential at this pivotal moment in the AAMC's history — as an independent nonprofit navigating a changed landscape while deepening its commitment to alumnae connection, the Mills legacy, and a strong future for the organization.
As a Governor, you have the opportunity to help shape new programs and initiatives, connect alumnae through events and learning, and champion everything Mills College represents.
Applications are reviewed by the Nominating Committee, a member-elected body that seeks to develop a diverse slate of candidates reflecting the Board's current composition and the AAMC's business needs. The Nominating Committee then recommends a slate of nominees to the Board of Governors for approval.
The committee considers attributes such as:
A broad concern for the AAMC and the legacy of Mills College as a whole
A commitment to invest the time and energy needed for effective service
A willingness to understand and work with complex organizations and challenges
Leadership and consensus-building skills
Experience on boards or in a professional area important to the AAMC's needs
An interest in and concern for higher education
DETAILS
The Board meets via Zoom at least six times per year to develop goals and objectives, address challenges, set direction, assist with planning, and monitor AAMC finances. Governors typically commit 2–4 hours per month at minimum, including meeting time — officers and committee chairs should expect more. The Board consists of 11 to 15 Governors. Participation is open to all AAMC members — anyone who enrolled at Mills College as an undergrad or graduate student and completed at least one semester.
